This year's Christmas decorations were all in. I used much of what I already had and filled in gaps where needed. For those of you who want the look, we've linked items from the tour below.
The first stop is the porch. This year, instead of a wreath, I chose to install greenery in a half arch around the door and dress it like a present with a red velvet bow. The two boxwood topiary trees were decorated with streaming red velvet bows of just the right length and swirled with gold/green/tinsel garland for a touch of fun. Large lanterns were arranged around the door at varying heights, and brilliant red poinsettias, which will be given to guests as they visit, surround the ground. The entry mat lights up to greet visitors with a delightful surprise as they step onto it.
The next room is our piano room. Our front room typically features a winter-themed decor. This year, it's centered around crystals and icicles. I embraced a crystal and green color scheme throughout the room, adding various sizes of white snowball ornaments beneath the tree. The mantle is decorated with a velvet green runner and faux greenery dusted with snow, complemented by extra tall white tapers (I'm obsessed!) and a simple real redwood wreath hung with emerald velvet ribbon over the artwork. White stockings with green silk ribbons complete the look.
Next stop is the kids' dining room, always a delightful space to decorate. I've continued with our Nutcracker theme, which we've embraced for the past few years. The adorable child-sized mugs from Sur La Table, purchased a few years ago, serve as the inspiration for the rest of the room. Candy canes and nutcrackers set the tone, with whimsical candy accents throughout. Each place setting is finished off with a marshmallow treat featuring various Christmas-themed decorations.
Entering our family room, I used the various red balls I've collected over the years, differing in size and texture, to form clusters strategically positioned around the tree. I found some affordable candlesticks (battery operated, not wired) and placed them between the red ball clusters. It creates a beautiful effect when only the candles are lit and the lights are off. We enjoy it both ways, but it's nice to have the option to choose one, the other, or both. The tree is quite simple, with essentially just two types of ornaments, but I am a fan.
I dressed the expansive fireplace mantle with a stunning 10-foot live swag composed of magnolia leaves, peppered eucalyptus, and redwood. To anchor the center of the mantle, I crafted an oversized floral arrangement featuring long-lasting greens and flowers. A pair of large pillar candles complete the look perfectly.
The dining room is our last destination on the Christmas home tour. Preparing it early in the season is a fantastic way to maintain a festive atmosphere throughout December. I was captivated by the teal plates, which made them an obvious choice to inspire this year's room decor. I decided to complement the teal with gold accents and clear glass, not only to reflect the piano room but also to let the teal shine as the focal point, and I loved the result.
That's a wrap- Simopoulos Christmas '24. Wishing you a magical Christmas full of all good things. Looking forward to what 2025 will bring. Hope you are as well .
